Goaltender Program

CMHA is committed to providing goalie programming and opportunities for the strength of our entire Association.  Our goalie program consists of mandated goalie training for U9 through U13 C and optional goalie training for U13 A and above.  The program begins after Thanksgiving and continues to the end of the season (skipping Halloween and Christmas break).  Goalies need to be registered through their Division Coordinator for the weekly sessions. The cost of the mandated training will be billed directly to the teams, so please ensure you register two goalies weekly, from your team.

CMHA Positional Play Policy

Our goaltender position in U9 through U11C is a rotating position to help our goaltenders gain strength and confidence.  CMHA provides goalie gear to the team for this purpose. CMHA offers 50% off base registration fees for any goaltenders registered full time U11A and above with their own equipment.

Our U9 to U11 C divisions follow the CMHA Positional Play Goaltender Policy.

CMHA POSITIONAL PLAY GOALTENDING POLICY

Progressive Stepped Development

The foundation of everything goalies learn is based on positional mastery. From Novice aged beginning goalies to pro calibre athletes, all our students are taught to continually work towards improving their positioning skills. Stressing confident positioning is where all goalies start. Once positioning has been understood and demonstrated consistently, our students are ready to start learning the mechanics of stance, movement, challenging shooters, rebound control, playing the puck, and directing play in the defensive end. These are all teachable skills that with our tested training methods have been shown to contribute to the exceptional development of goalies aspiring to raise their game to a higher level.

Attention to Details
Our Instructors are sticklers for details. Details on stance, positioning, holding your stick and other subtleties can mean the difference between the one that got past you and making the winning save. Students are constantly monitored and assessed for their adherence to practicing exactly as the instructors have explained. Long term, we have found that this attention to detail makes our students more aware of the finer points of their game and aids in developing their mental toughness.

Rep Goalie Development Program
This year we are looking to attach goalie instructors to all the teams.  We feel that having a goalie instructor working with the teams and attending games, to see what each goalie needs to focus on improving.  We want to make sure the goalie instructor is the correct fit for the team and the goalies, so we have a variety of instructors available.  Austin Caktas, Justin Mulholland, Breanna Holingshead, Jacob Severson, Dom Fritz, and Proformance instructors, are available to work with CMHA's goalies this year.  Goalie parents can contact Jordan at dev.coordinator2@coqmha.org if they wish to request a specific goalie coach to work with.
We will also be running a Rep Goalie Development session after the Winter Break.  We will be planning these camps with goalies and shooters together.  The goal is to have the goalies and shooters each get time to improve their skills and then practice what they have learned together.
Dates and times - TBA
