Game assignments are prioritized to officials who are registered with CMHA and prioritize their own officiating development by attending our weekly ice sessions and update their availability regularly. For more information on those see our webpage titled “Ice Sessions”.

Referee Grade Levels
Examples
- To Referee at U13A you must be at least a Level 1 Grade 2 official.
- To referee at U18C you must be at least a Level 2 Grade 2 official
- To referee at U18A you must be at least a Level 3 official
- To Line at U13C you must be at least a Level 1 Grade 1 official To Line at U18C you must be at least a Level 2 Grade 1 official
- To line at U21A you must be at least a Level 2 Grade 3 Official
- * Minimum Age is your age at December 31 of the current year
- Thus, a Level 2 Grade 1 official can referee up to U15C, but can line up to U21C (if they are old enough)
- A Level 2, Grade 2 official can referee and line up to U21C (but cannot work any U18A or U21A)
- A Level 2, Grade 3 official can referee up to U21C but can line U18A and U21A
Referee Allowances
PCAHA Referee/Linesperson expense allowances are reviewed every three years. At the PCAHA AGM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, amendments were made the Referee/Linesperson allowance.
Referee and linespersons expense allowances for all games with a duration of 90 minutes or less within PCAHA shall be in accordance with the following schedule:

Where the 4 official system is authorized, should fewer than four officials appear for a U18 “C”, U18 “A”, or U21 “A” game, the normal expense allowances for 3 or fewer officials shall apply (see above).
For any game exceeding 90 minutes, an additional $5 per official will be added for each additional 15 minutes of game time (rounded up).
No rate in excess of the above schedule shall be permitted (including all exhibition, league, playoff, and tournament/jamboree games).
Per Section I(9)(a), if the 4 official system is authorized for use the following modifications apply to rates in Section I(8)(a). Other than the divisions mentioned in I(8)(a), the 4 official system is permitted in sanctioned tournaments in U15 and above if authorized by the BC Hockey Minor Officiating Lead.
In the 4 official system, both Referees shall receive the Referee’s expense allowance as specified in Section I(8)(a) for 3 official system less the following amounts:
U15 “C” - $3.00
U15 “A” and U18 “C” - $5.00
U18 “A”, U21 “C” and U21 “A” - $10.00
No rates in excess of the above schedule may be paid for any game, and no “tipping” of officials is permitted.
